Let an AI agent run your OneText campaigns

Last updated: September 30, 2026

You can connect an AI coding agent, like Claude Code or Codex, to your OneText account. It can check campaigns, write drafts and schedule sends. It sends nothing without your say-so. Here's how it works and what to expect.

Example draft written by an agent

Your Store: Happy Halloween! No tricks, just treats. Shop our spooky season picks before they vanish: yourstore.link/x7Qp

What is an AI agent, in this context?

It's an AI assistant that runs on your computer and can take actions for you, such as Claude Code or Codex. Once connected, it talks to OneText directly. You tell it what you want in plain English, like "draft a Halloween campaign for my SMS list," and it does the work.

What can the agent do?

Some things it can do on its own. Anything that texts a real phone needs your yes first, every time.

Setting it up

About ten minutes. You do two things in your browser, and the agent guides you through the rest.

How do I get started?

  1. Choose an email address for the agent.

  2. In OneText, go to Settings → Authorized Users → Invite Team Members and invite that address.

  3. Open the invite email and set a password.

  4. Give your agent the OneText setup instructions. It walks you through saving the password safely and logging in.

Why can't the agent just use my login?

Everything done in OneText is recorded under the login that did it. If the agent uses your login, you can't tell its changes from yours. A separate login keeps the history clear, and you can remove it any time without affecting your own access.

Do I need a new email account for the agent?

Usually not. Most email providers, including Gmail, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, let you add +anything before the @. For example, jane+agent@yourstore.com arrives in Jane's normal inbox, but OneText treats it as a separate user.

If OneText doesn't accept the + sign, or your email provider doesn't support it, create a separate address instead.

How much access does the agent get?

Full access. Invited users can do anything in your OneText account, and there isn't a read-only or campaigns-only option when you invite someone.

Before you invite: anything the agent can reach, it can change. It's designed to ask before sending, but it has the same access any team member would.

Does the agent see my password?

No. You type the password into a prompt that hides your typing, and it goes straight into your computer's secure password storage: Keychain on a Mac, encrypted storage tied to your Windows user, or the system keyring on Linux. It never appears in the chat or in any file the agent can read as plain text.

Some agents won't log in with a password themselves. In that case, you run one short login command and the agent uses the temporary login it creates.

How long does the login last?

About 24 hours. After that, the agent logs in again using the saved password, or asks you to run the login command again. There's no permanent key that stays valid forever.

How do I remove the agent's access?

Go to Settings → Authorized Users and remove the agent's email address. Access ends right away. You can also delete the saved password from your computer's password storage.

Sending and safety

The agent is built to be careful with anything that reaches a customer's phone.

Will the agent ever text my customers without asking?

No. Drafts never send. Before any test text, the agent tells you the phone number and how many messages it will send, then waits for your yes. Before scheduling a campaign, it confirms the store, the audience, the send time with time zone, and the exact message.

What's the difference between a preview and a test send?

A preview shows the message with the real link filled in, and nothing is sent. A test send puts a real text on a real phone from your marketing number. A test send is the most accurate check, because it shows exactly what arrives, but it always needs your approval.

How do I know it actually worked?

The agent doesn't take "request accepted" as proof. After every change, it reads the campaign back from OneText and reports what's actually saved: status, audience, send time and message. After a test send, it checks the delivery status and quotes the text that arrived.

Can I change a campaign after it's scheduled?

Not directly. A scheduled campaign can only be cancelled, and a cancelled campaign stays cancelled. To change one, the agent cancels it and rebuilds it with your changes. The cancelled version stays visible in your campaign list.

Because of this, it's best to settle the wording and timing while the campaign is still a draft.

Should it send at one time for everyone, or at each person's local time?

You choose, and the agent will ask. "One time for everyone" means a 10am Pacific send reaches the East Coast at 1pm. "Local time" means everyone gets it at 10am where they are. For marketing texts, the agent also follows quiet hours by default.

Writing good messages

Does it add my store link?

Yes. It puts a tracked link to your store in the message, so clicks show up in your reports. It can also link to checkout or order tracking, and it can use the customer's first name.

Can it add a discount code?

Yes. Give it a code that already exists in your store, and it writes the code into the message so customers can read it and attaches it to the link. It won't make up a code.

What if I name a list that doesn't exist?

It stops and asks. If you say "Team List 1" and your account only has "Team List", the agent won't guess. It shows you the closest matches and waits for you to choose.
